Wood. (For treasure Chest)


Shell (For Spiral Shell. )


The hard part about the shell is that all the texture is aligned with the curve of the shell. Its creating a texture that emulates the shell with-ought the curves, I may try to add some curve texture in painter. But in designer The texture needs to be relatively flat.
I really struggled with this one, this is the kind of thing I had for a while, trying to experiment with messing around with circles and lines overlayed with one another. But I could never get it looking good.

I played around with some textures in painter for inspiration and found that a overscaled wool effect looks sort of shell like, so used that for inspiration.

While experimenting I then over-drove a directional warp to discover this pattern. very usable for shells!

Which eventually developed into this shell pattern

The majority of the work is done in this directional warp here.


The shell looks really great once textured in Substance painter. There is a slight gradient effect applied with the position generator, to give the texture more depth.

Most kelp actually grows on sand/rocks… not a mud like structure, I was surprised.
